The Jerdon's Courser (Rhinoptilus bitorquatus) is a nocturnal bird belonging to the pratincole and courser family Glareolidae endemic to India. The bird was discovered by the surgeon-naturalist Thomas C. Jerdon in 1848 but not seen again until its rediscovery in 1986.[2] This courser is a restricted-range endemic found locally in India in the Eastern Ghats of Andhra Pradesh. It is currently known only from the Sri Lankamalleshwara Sanctuary ( The only habitat in the world harbouring the Jerdon’s Courser a highly endangered bird. FLORA: Dry deciduous mixed thorn forests with deep gorges and steep slopes. Red Sanders, an endemic species is found here. FAUNA: Panther, Sloth Bear, Cheetal, Sambar, Chowsingha, Chinkara, Nilgai, Wild Boar, Fox and the Jerdon’s Courser), where it inhabits sparse scrub forest with patches of bare ground.
The White-bellied Heron is found in the wetlands of tropical and subtropical forests in the foothills of the eastern Himalayas of India and Myanmar. It is also spotted in Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan's sub tropical areas and was once found in Nepal. The major threats the heron faces are hunting (both the bird itself and its eggs) and habitat destruction (the cutting of nesting trees and the disappearance of wetlands).
The White-rumped Vulture (Gyps bengalensis) is an Old World vulture closely related to the European Griffon Vulture (Gyps fulvus). At one time it was believed to be closer to the White-backed Vulture of Africa and was known as the Oriental White-backed Vulture
The preferred nesting trees were Banyan, Peepul, Arjun, and Neem.
Conservation measures have included reintroduction, captive-breeding programs and artificial feeding or "vulture restaurants".[42] Two chicks, which were apparently the first captive-bred White-rumped Vultures ever, hatched in January 2007, at a facility at Pinjore
The Red-headed Vulture (Sarcogyps calvus), also known as the Asian King Vulture, Indian Black Vulture or Pondicherry Vulture,
The Namdapha Flying Squirrel (Biswamoyopterus biswasi), the sole species placed in the genus Biswamoyopterus, is an arboreal, nocturnal flying squirrel endemic to India, and is listed as a critically endangered species due to habitat loss. First collected in Deban (on 27 April 1981), no population estimates are available for B. biswasi, but the known habitat is tall Mesua ferrea jungles, often on hill slopes in the catchment area of Noa Dihing river (particularly on the western slope of Patkoi range) in North eastern India Namdapha National Park
- is the largest protected area in the Eastern Himalaya biodiversity hotspot and is located in Arunachal Pradesh in Northeast India. It is also the largest national park in India in terms of area. It is located in the Eastern Himalayan sub-region and is recognized as one of the richest areas in biodiversity in India.[1] The park harbours the northernmost lowland evergreen rainforests in the world at 27°N latitude.[2] The area is also known for extensive Dipterocarp forests
